Wedding Reception Ideas: Table Naming

Tuesday, 12 August 2008 21:37 by Sandi

A new twist to the old tradition of identifying tables with numbers is to label your tables instead with names or phrases.

Follow your overall wedding theme and create names that fall in line. For an outdoor wedding in a sumptuous garden you could choose flower names. For a beach wedding, you could choose accessories found on a beach (ie. shells, sand, etc.). For a fishing themed wedding you could name each table after a different fish.

There are hundreds of unique naming ideas to lead guests to their tables. Name each table after a significant event in your relationship, and print the story on the back of the table card. Create a theme of table cards revolving around particular places that have special meaning to you and your future spouse, and include a photo of the spot. The places can include cities you've travelled to, or cities you hope to travel to in the future, ski resorts you've skied at, or favorite camping spots.

Name your tables after street names in your home town, and show a photo of the actual sign as your center card and on your escort cards.

For those musically inclined name each table after a favorite song, and be sure to include each song on the night's music playlist.

Name your tables with the word love written out in a different language.

If you still find that numbering the tables is the simplest arrangement for you, then dress up those numbers by adding engagement photos, photos of you both throughout your childhood, or by adding a fun fact or trivia item about you as a couple to each table.

You can also use totally random numbers instead of sequential ones, numbers that reflect interesting aspects of your lives, with the reason for that number explained below.

Choose a birth date, the date you met, the date you were engaged, or the time it took you to complete a marathon. Non-sequential and totally random, they offer yet another fun way to dress up your table.

If you want to spark conversation and add an interesting detail to each of your reception go ahead and name that table.

Entertaining Younger Wedding Guests

Saturday, 19 July 2008 21:46 by Sandi

For your younger wedding guests, once the excitement of wearing new clothes and being the centre of attention wears off, the rest of your wedding will be a drag for them.  As young children become bored and restless, their behavior starts to become disruptive. A situation that, in turn, makes it hard for the parents to relax and have a good time themselves.

One thing the Bride and Groom can do to help plan for this situation is to provide a wedding activity pack.  These can be purchased as pre-made packs or do-it-yourself.  Consisting of small books full of word puzzles, mazes, coloring pages, crayons and more, these activity packs go a long way to ensure that all of your guests, both young and old alike remember your wedding with fondness.  If there are enough children attending the wedding to allow for a children's only table, decorating the table with child friendly and visually pleasing centerpieces as well as covering the table in paper for coloring and doodling can create a more interesting environment for children.

If the wedding is located in a hotel, some brides have elected to hire a child sitter to entertain children in a separate room away from the adults. The room is filled with crafts, video games, television and DVD player as well as snacks and beverages suited to a younger audience. While a welcome break for parents, it also acts as a welcomed timeout from the wedding for the kids and allows them to chow down on pizza or other kid friendly food instead of having to put on their best manners and sit still in their formal duds. Once the dancing starts, kids can be invited back to join the rest of the guests and party the night away.
