A new twist to the old tradition of identifying tables with numbers is to label your tables instead with names or phrases.
Follow your overall wedding theme and create names that fall in line. For an outdoor wedding in a sumptuous garden you could choose flower names. For a beach wedding, you could choose accessories found on a beach (ie. shells, sand, etc.). For a fishing themed wedding you could name each table after a different fish.
There are hundreds of unique naming ideas to lead guests to their tables. Name each table after a significant event in your relationship, and print the story on the back of the table card. Create a theme of table cards revolving around particular places that have special meaning to you and your future spouse, and include a photo of the spot. The places can include cities you've travelled to, or cities you hope to travel to in the future, ski resorts you've skied at, or favorite camping spots.
Name your tables after street names in your home town, and show a photo of the actual sign as your center card and on your escort cards.
For those musically inclined name each table after a favorite song, and be sure to include each song on the night's music playlist.
Name your tables with the word love written out in a different language.
If you still find that numbering the tables is the simplest arrangement for you, then dress up those numbers by adding engagement photos, photos of you both throughout your childhood, or by adding a fun fact or trivia item about you as a couple to each table.
You can also use totally random numbers instead of sequential ones, numbers that reflect interesting aspects of your lives, with the reason for that number explained below.
Choose a birth date, the date you met, the date you were engaged, or the time it took you to complete a marathon. Non-sequential and totally random, they offer yet another fun way to dress up your table.
If you want to spark conversation and add an interesting detail to each of your reception go ahead and name that table.
